The Smile Bar is one of the few dental practices in the Gambrills area with a full-service, state-of-the-art lab on-site — anchored by the Versamill Precision Dental Machining Center. We design, scan, and manufacture even the most complex restorations right in our office, with full-time technicians on staff.

Why does an in-house lab matter to me as a patient?

Because your restoration never leaves the building. Shade and fit adjustments happen while you are in the office, turnaround is dramatically faster than shipping to an outside lab, and the doctor and technicians refine your case together — one accountable team instead of a shipping label.

How precise are the restorations?

Our expertly tuned CAD libraries, CAM machining templates, and machine accuracy within 5 microns are designed to deliver a consistent, precision fit the first time — computer-assisted design and milling replacing lab procedures once done by hand.

What does the 3D printer actually make?

Formlabs' Form 3B digital workflow lets us print accurate, highly reliable dental parts and biocompatible appliances — dentures, crowns and bridges, clear retainers, and surgical guides — faster and more affordably than existing alternatives, right in our office.

Is 3D cone beam imaging safe?

The KaVo OP 3D CBCT system is designed to reduce radiation exposure to patients while still retaining highly diagnostic images. Complete, high-resolution 3D views of bone structure and tooth orientation help the doctor plan implant placement with more confidence and predictability.

What is microscope dentistry?

Instead of dental loupes that magnify about 3 to 6 times, Dr. Forbes uses a dental operating microscope that can magnify up to 20 times normal vision, with variable zoom. It can be applied to any procedure and helps decrease surgery duration while making results more consistent and predictable.

Do I still need goopy impressions?

In most cases, no. The Medit i500 intraoral scanner takes a video scan of your mouth, producing highly accurate virtual impressions — no gag-inducing molds, and higher-quality data for your implants and crowns.
